Colors Skill of the Day Calendar Companion for your Daily Routine: Colors, Shapes, Name, Letters, Numbers 1-10, 11-20 of the Day

Are you looking for new ways to incorporate important concepts into your daily routine?  Concepts like shapes, colors, name, letters and numbers?  Then, you and your students will love our Skill of the Day Calendar Companion!  Click {HERE} to check out the bundle.  Check out Color of the Day below.

Calendar Companions are great for both preschool and kindergarten.  Not all children attend preschool prior to entering kindergarten, and a little review is great for all students.
First, you need to find a location in your room that is a common meeting place for your large group.  I place mine next to my calendar.  We use this as a part of our calendar routine.

I start out the year using Color of the Day.  I start using this activity the second week of school, and for the first week I demonstrate how to use each area.  The child that is the calendar helper for the day, also complete the skill of the day.

First, choose the color you would like to start with and determine how many days you want to spend on each color.

Next, the boys and girls will search through many pictures to find objects that match the color.

The boys and girls will also share what their favorite color is.

Prior to the lesson place crayons in a library envelope next to sheets of paper attached to the wall.  The boys and girls will use the color of the day to draw or write something of their choice.

Then, choose 4 colors (one of them being the color of the day) for the boys and girls to sort.

I stapled a laminated white square of paper to the wall.  Prior to the activity I used sticky putty to attach pictures for each of the 4 colors (laminated prior to the activity).

To ensure that everyone is following along, I attach the follow along page to a clipboard with a baggie of crayons.  They will choose the color of the day and complete the activities on the page (this may work best for kindergarten in the fall and preschool in the spring)

At the end of the unit, I use the Color of the Day assessment to see which colors the children still need a little help with.
